André von Moos was born in 1949. He studied Law at Zürich University and Business Economics at the University of St. Gallen. He holds a Doctorate of Law and is lic. oec HSG.

After a career as an auditor with Coopers & Lybrand, Dr. Von Moos became General Manager and CEO of a family-owned steel business. In 1996 he merged this business with Von Roll Steel*. Since that merger, Dr. Von Moos has created several companies in the fields of wood, steel, textiles and consulting. These businesses are all held under the umbrella of AvM Holdings AG, CH-Lucerne.

Andre Von Moos has served an several Governing Boards for his family owned companies. He is also a Member of the Stiftungsrat FER, the ruling body for Swiss Accounting Standards, as well as an Officer and Member of the Supreme Body of the ICRC.

Dr. Von Moos has published numerous articles on Good Governance as well as two books on Good Governance in Family Owned Businesses in 2003 and 2006 respectively.


* Restructuring and Consolidation of Swiss Steel Industry in 1996

Von Moos Holdings AG, still a family owned business in 1996, merged its business with a former competitor, Von Roll Holdings AG to become Swiss Steel Holdings AG. Taking a long-term view with regards to the beginning of global consoldation of the steel industry, Von Moos Holdings family shareholders decided to merge. In a joint action with Swiss Main Banks the major shareholders of Von Roll Holdings AG the steel businesses of both companies were merged into Swiss Steel. Consequently, Dr. Von Moos, acting as Managing Director and Representative for the Von Moss family, decided to transfer the management of the newly public firm to a non-family management team.
